1.
Idea 1 for STEM project – have students create a maze for our pet mouse
using boxes, empty paper towel rolls and toilet rolls, and see which maze takes
the mouse the longest
2.
Idea 2 – Biomass (from science olympiad): Each team will grow a plant
from a seed and give a report of its growing conditions. Additionally, students
will study the impact of different growing conditions on plants
3.
What I REALLY want to do – have my kids make cardboard boats with only
cardboard and tape. There’s an annual
summer event where students race their boats.
It would be a great project; however, it is more ideal for summer!

I really liked our discussion about water (density vs. ice, etc.). I think it would be interesting to study more
about water, especially since it is a universal solvent.

I enjoyed tonight’s class. The
conversion problems were not overwhelming (they sometimes can be), probably
because we only did a couple, and they were given in context. I do not like conversions that are meaningless—calculating
with the efficiency of cars made it interesting!
Nicole, how about holding the boat competition at a local pool? Also, for the biomass project, you could bring in a discussion about phytoremediation... a process used to pull metal (or other)contamination out of soils through planting specific trees or grasses (poplars are used for this).
